CAVB ZONE V QUALIFIERS – KAMPALA

31ST MAY – 6TH JUNE 2026

Kenya overpowers Uganda in CAVB Zone V Qualifiers

Kenya’s national volleyball team put on a dominant display to edge out arch-rivals Uganda in a high-octane encounter defined by tactical superiority and clinical finishing.

Kenya started on the front foot, establishing an early two-point cushion at 8-6 in a high-momentum opening set.

Uganda’s defensive vulnerabilities quickly became apparent; a string of poor receptions gifted the Kenyan attackers free rein, allowing the neighbours to extend their advantage to a comfortable four-point lead at 18-14.

Kenya capitalised on this momentum, executing a clinical finish to take the opening frame with a dominant 25-17 victory.

Uganda’s reception woes continued to haunt them into the second set. Kenya capitalised immediately, cruising to an early 9-3 lead.

Just as the game seemed to be slipping away, Uganda staged a spirited comeback. Facing a daunting six-point deficit, they fought tooth and nail to level the score at 17-17.

However, Uganda’s resurgence was short-lived. Kenya regained their composure in the tense closing moments of the frame, showing nerves of steel to claim a razor-thin 26-24 victory.

Despite flashes of brilliance suggesting Uganda might claw their way back and snatch a set, Kenya refused to let up.

Even Kenya’s late setback which saw standout player Nicholas Matui forced off the court due to an injury, could not derail the Kenyan machine.

Elphas Makuto proved to be an impact sub, stepping up seamlessly from the bench to anchor the final plays and seal a hard-fought match victory for Kenya.
